About the family
In the heart of the 1980s, Pierre and Claire Lacour left behind the grey skies of France, drawn by the warmth and gentle pace of Caribbean life. They first settled in Martinique and soon began exploring the surrounding islands. It wasn’t long before they fell in love with Saint-Barthélemy, which became their cherished home in 1995.
Two years later, in April 1997, they opened the doors of Sea Memory, born from their experience as self-taught antique restorers. From the beginning, the maison distinguished itself by curating exceptional furniture and objects from around the world, revealing a refined craftsmanship and a passion for detail.
Over time, the collection evolved and gained in prestige, asserting a style that is both unique and timeless. In 2007, their only son Edouard joined the venture, having honed his expertise in the world of exotic leathers. With a deep desire to carry on the spirit of the maison, he chose galuchat (stingray leather) as the brand’s signature material, infusing each creation with modernity and originality. While honoring the family’s legacy, Sea Memory continues to explore the world of rare curiosities, showcasing noble materials such as mother-of-pearl, horn, and crystal.
Today, Sea Memory stands as a must-visit destination for those seeking shopping experiences that are both original and elegant. Claire and Edouard, passionate storytellers, share anecdotes and scientific discoveries with those who step into the boutique. For over a decade now, Edouard has proudly carried the family torch, continuing a story shaped by passion, innovation, and unparalleled refinement. Thus, Sea Memory continues to leave its mark on the island’s cultural landscape, while also emerging on the global stage of artisanal excellence.

The Stingray skin,
alias Galuchat
Galuchat. A word, a legend.First treasured in Japan by samurai who adorned their sword hilts with its distinct texture, galuchat owes its name to Jean-Claude Galluchat, master craftsman to Louis XV. His refined technique gave new prestige to this marine leather, sought after for its unique grain and pearly glow.
Our galuchat is sourced with care: it comes from species fished for their meat, ensuring no waste and no threat to biodiversity. Not listed under CITES, it is a sustainable material—chosen for its strength, its elegance, and its ability to stand the test of time.
Crafted in the spirit of the great French ateliers. Each piece is shaped and finished in France, following the exacting standards of haute artisanat. At Sea Memory, galuchat becomes a timeless gesture—an object of curiosity, elegance, and memory.
